Performing: If you would like to sign up to read at the next mothertongue show, please email info@mothertongue.org. Please note that we have a limited number of spots available each month.

Guidelines for readers:

  • Please check in with Michelle, the readers' list coordinator, at least 15 minutes before the show starts.
  • For readers, the time limit is 3 pieces or 5 minutes, whichever is shorter.
  • In order to maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and drama-free atmosphere, we ask that you refrain from reading anything which defames, denigrates or attacks other members of our community or people at the show.

Writing: If you are interested in writing poetry, come to mothertongue*east, a women's writing group held the 1st Sunday of each month at Stompin Grounds/Murkey Coffee 4:30pm. No need to sign-up, just show-up!
For more info, e-mail Eryca Kasse at mteast@mothertongue.org.

Volunteering: mothertongue is completely volunteer run! Everything that we do is a result of the passion and dedication of volunteers. We currently need people to help plan the monthly events, pass out flyers at local venues and events, coordinate special projects, and we are also looking for board members.

If you are interested in any of these roles, or have ideas of your own, please contact info@mothertongue.org.

Donating: Because mothertongue donates the proceeds from each show to a local organization that benefits women or girls, we depend on the generosity of community members for financial support. We operate on very little money, so every little bit helps.

Please send checks made out to the "Washington Peace Center" with "mothertongue" in the subject line to:
Mothertongue c/o Natalie Illum
1650 Harvard St NW Apt 515
Washington, DC 20009

Flyering: If you are interested in flyering for mothertongue, please contact Mary, mothertongue outreach coordinator at info@mothertongue.org. Check back periodically for downloadable versions of the flyer that you can print out and pass out yourself!
